Welcome to Conversations in Mohs Surgery, where Dr. Thomas Knackstedt, dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, takes a closer look at articles published in the micrographic dermatologic surgery literature by speaking with the authors and researchers involved. The podcast is an extension of the College’s online bibliography, a searchable, high-yield article reference library aligned with the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship curriculum. Dr. Knackstedt is director of dermatologic surgery at MetroHealth Dermatology in Cleveland, where he runs the Mohs surgery unit and leads a weekly nail disease clinic. He received his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, followed by residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire and fellowship training in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology with Dr. Nathaniel Jellinek at Dermatology Professionals in Rhode Island.

Episode 14: Dr. Brian Gastman
Episode 14 features Brian Gastman, MD, the Medical and Surgical Director for Cleveland Clinic Foundation's Melanoma and High Risk Skin Cancer Program. Dr. Gastman is a double boarded Plastic Surgeon and Otolaryngologist who has published more than 100 articles related to melanoma and merkle cell carcinoma. The article discussed, Malignant Melanoma: Diagnostic and Management Update was published in Plastic Reconstructive Surgery.

Episode 13 features Drs. Jerry D. Brewer, MD, MS, FACMS Professor of Dermatology and Mohs Surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Nathaniel J. Episode 9 features ACMS Associate member Jeffrey Scott of Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Scott is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and he discusses the article, Characteristics of State and Federal Malpractice Litigation of Medical Liability Claims for Keratinocyte Carcinoma published July 2019 in JAMA Dermatology. This study reviews malpractice litigations for keratinocyte carcinoma and looks to identify factors that impact appellate decisions.
Episode 8: Drs. Lindsey Collins and Sean Condon
Episode 8 features Drs. Lindsey Collins, Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health and Sciences Center and Sean Condon, a Mohs surgeon in private practice at The Center for Dermatology Care in Thousand Oaks, California. Recorded live at the ACMS Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Drs. Episode 5: Dr. Christopher Miller
Episode 5 features Christopher J. Miller, MD, FACMS, Director of the Penn Dermatology Oncology Center and Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Miller discusses two recent studies, Melanomas of the head and neck have high local recurrence risk features and require tissue rearranging reconstruction more commonly than BCC and SCC: A comparison of indications for microscopic margin control prior to reconstruction in 13,664 tumors and The 'Rule of 10s' versus the 'Rule of 2s': High complication rates after conventional excision with postoperative margin assessment of specialty site versus trunk and proximal extremity melanomas. Both were published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in late 2018.
