Position Statement:
Mohs surgeons lead. Whether in the procedure room, clinic, or in the board room, we deliver precise, high-value, patient-centered care that represents the apex of current dermatologic oncology. The ACMS has long ensured that is members are clinically exceptional through rigorous fellowship training, phenomenal scientific programming, and a commitment to continuous learning. As Chair of the 2026 ACMS Scientific Program Committee, I have had the privilege of helping shape the educational offerings that distinguish our organization’s annual meeting. But in today’s healthcare environment, clinical excellence must be matched with strength in advocacy. The future of our specialty depends on it.
As a private practice Mohs surgeon who co-founded an independent, physician-owned dermatology group, I understand first-hand the pressures our members face: declining reimbursements, rising inflationary overhead costs, growing staffing shortages, and onerous administrative requirements that pull us away from the care only we can provide. These challenges shape our daily work, our practices’ long-term sustainability, and our patients’ access to timely Mohs surgery. They are the reason advocacy has become the driving force of my career.
Throughout the six years since my fellowship graduation, I have honed my advocacy skills by serving on various committees within the AAD and ASDS, as well as my state and local medical and dermatologic societies. Completing the ACMS Foundation’s Mohs Surgeons Leading the Future program in 2024 strengthened my leadership capabilities and broadened my understanding of the College’s strategic priorities. As the strategic leader for my independent practice’s growth, I have scaled our operation from a one-location, two-physician practice with a handful of employees to a four-location, ten-physician practice with over sixty employees – a process which has expanded my operational and financial expertise, taught me how to build a mission-driven workplace culture, and grounded me in the day-to-day realities that shape the work of Mohs surgeons across the country.
As an ACMS Board member, I will work tirelessly to protect the financial viability of Mohs surgery, defend physician autonomy, support independent practices, and empower the next generation of Mohs surgeons to become skilled, confident advocates. Mohs surgery delivers extraordinary value to our patients, our colleagues, and the healthcare system. I am committed to ensuring that this value is recognized, defended, and advanced through decisive, forward-looking leadership. It would be an honor to serve the ACMS during this pivotal time for our specialty.
