Position Statement:
I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for Secretary/Treasurer of the ACMS.
The ACMS has introduced me to wise mentors, taught me to be a better surgeon, and advocated for fair reimbursement of our procedures. If I am elected Secretary/Treasurer, I will help to make sure the ACMS also serves you to build a fulfilling career.
Our specialty was founded on the principles of excellence and innovation to improve skin cancer treatment outcomes. Like all innovators, Mohs surgeons faced resistance as they challenged specialists to reimagine conventional surgery techniques. During the 55 years since its founding, the ACMS and its courageous members fought resistance to establish Mohs surgeons as leaders in skin cancer surgery and reconstruction. As a result of their work, Mohs surgery is now enshrined in our nation’s leading consensus guidelines, and we have sanctioned training programs and a certification exam.
Now that we have earned credibility, we must secure our future as skin cancer leaders with continuous innovation to raise care standards and to grow our influence. We will grow stronger by extending our network with other surgical specialists and international colleagues. We will accelerate learning if we expand our world-class education programs to reach more colleagues. We will publish more high impact research by building collaborations. We will advance advocacy for our specialty by training more leaders to represent the ACMS in our communities and national organizations.
By living its values of innovation and excellence, the ACMS has made it possible for us to practice Mohs surgery with the trust of patients and referring colleagues. If elected Secretary/Treasurer, I will help to innovate ACMS programs that promote your excellent work and that help you flourish in your future career.
