Position Statement:
It is an honor to be nominated by colleagues for the role of ACMS Secretary-Treasurer with the opportunity to serve the organization that I see as my professional home. We are at a unique time in the history of the College with board-certification, unprecedented staffing shortages, inflation pressures and decreasing reimbursements for Mohs surgery. We must fearlessly innovate and collaborate to ensure that Mohs surgery not only survives but thrives through these challenging times. I believe that my background and experiences will enable me to set the tone and continue the outstanding work of our executive team as a potential future Secretary-Treasurer and ultimately as President of the ACMS:
• Commitment to Excellence: My commitment to excellence in patient care, education, research, and advocacy aligns with the core values of our College. I pledge to encourage the integration and sharing of innovative techniques and best practices in our field, ensuring that our College remains at the forefront of Mohs surgery, cutaneous oncology, and pathologic and reconstructive excellence. In addition, I am committed to national, state, and local legislative efforts and strong advocacy for fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons.
• Effective Communication: Clear and effective communication is pivotal for the success of any organization. As an Officer of the ACMS, I pledge to maintain open and transparent lines of communication with our members, facilitating a platform for all voices to be heard and needs addressed on time. This includes as Secretary keeping minutes of all meetings and the Board of Directors; seeing that all notices are given per the law and bylaws; as Treasurer serving as the principal accounting and financial officer of the College.
• Energy and Collaboration: Focused energy and a collaborative culture are the cornerstones of any thriving organization. I am committed to working closely with the College's stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that will benefit our organization and, most importantly, the patients we serve.
• Inclusion: I will work tirelessly to ensure that our College fosters an inclusive environment where all members feel valued, respected, and represented.
• Financial Stewardship and Strategic Vision: As Treasurer and a future officer, I would help ensure the financial sustainability of the College by implementing effective budgetary strategies while also working diligently to build philanthropic endowments. In my current role as Department Chair, I oversee approximately $45 million in annual budgets and am well-versed in finance. In addition, my experience as a member of the ACMS Board of Directors and as an Officer (Secretary and Parliamentarian) in the Women’s Dermatology Society has equipped me with significant expertise in managing by-laws, setting strategic vision, and ensuring national organizational compliance and success.
I look forward to the opportunity to join forces with our talented team of professionals and to contribute to the legacy of excellence that defines the American College of Mohs Surgery. After being notified of the nomination, I have given the nomination sincere thought and believe I am in the ideal position in my career to diligently serve and prioritize the College. Thank you for your consideration.
