Position Statement:

As I reflect on the last 13 ½ years I have been a member of the Mohs College, I am filled with immense gratitude.  What an amazing experience it has been to be a physician and participate in the art of caring and curing.  As members of the Mohs College, we have been given a gift…the gift to care for those with cutaneous malignancy like no others can.  I see the level of care we deliver raised to new heights year after year.  The way Mohs surgery offers hope and cure, with exceptional function and esthetics is truly awe inspiring.  I am humbled to be surrounded by such extraordinary people, and further humbled to be considered to represent this great organization as Secretary/Treasurer.  We have accomplished so much and navigated successfully unprecedented times.  Emerging on the other side of a pandemic, having an increased presence on social media, putting into place successful advocacy efforts, a recent shift to high levels of focus on diversity, a formal appropriate use criteria for Mohs micrographic surgery, improving wisely efforts, MohsAIQ, nearly three quarters of our members becoming board certified, and the ACMS Foundation’s two arms supporting high end research and leadership development are a few.  Through the steady leadership of our Mohs College and the ACMS staff we have accomplished incredible things.  I understand however, that in spite of these accomplishments, we have work to do, including a continued strong presence in social media, advocacy, leadership development and high-end research demonstrating the quality of our work.  If given the opportunity I promise to bring every bit of me to the table, to serve with vigor, grit, drive, humility, and gratitude.  I promise to serve as a servant leader, knowing I am no better than anyone else, that there are numerous individuals within the college that in many ways are more talented and capable than I, and that the opportunity to serve is a privilege.  I also promise to focus on relationships as I am very aware that relationships are the most important part of living.  The aspect of my life I am most proud of is being the father of 7 which has given me tremendous rich life experiences and joy, love, hope, and growth.  In closing I’d like to end with the words of Helen Keller…” the world is moved not only by the mighty shoves of the heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”  I understand that all we do and what we accomplish is because of all of us, and because of the things we do together every day for each other and for our patients.  The ACMS has given me so much and I am now humbled and honored to be considered as someone to represent you, and to give back as Secretary/Treasurer.  I eagerly look forward to this opportunity to serve you.  Thank you sincerely for your consideration.
