Grant Overview

The Grant opportunities listed are available to eligible ACMS members. The number of grants awarded each year is based on current funding and the quality of applications. Applications must be submitted online by using the application link below.

Award Payments
Award payments are distributed in January and July.

Project Updates
Award winners must be willing to provide project updates during the ACMS 2025 Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN, May 15-18, 2025.

Grant Selection Process
Award selection is made by the ACMS Foundation Research Grant Review Committee in consultation with the ACMS Board of Directors. Awards will be publicly announced at the 2024 ACMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ.

ACMS Foundation Award Categories

  • $20,000 - $40,000 research support stipend based on the robustness, clinical importance, and budget of the project.
  • Intended to develop research skills in future leaders of micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology.
  • Research projects must pertain to dermatologic surgery and cutaneous oncology (special consideration will be made for projects involving MohsAIQ data).
  • Will favor focused projects with the potential to collect original data.
  • Awardee will be announced at the 2024 Annual Meeting and must plan for IRB approval to take place prior to July so work may commence on this project and produce results by the next Annual Meeting.

Award Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed training in a US Dermatology Residency Program and/or a member in good standing of the American College of Mohs Surgery.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States or Canada.
  • Applicants must not have received a grant from the ACMS Foundation in the past two years.

Application Information (required):

  1. Applicant's Biographical Sketch - Attach your biographical sketch in the standard NIH format. Not to exceed three (3) pages.
  2. Detailed Budget - Provide a detailed budget. One (1) page limit
  3. Research Proposal - Organize the application in the following format. Two (2) page limit
    • Specific Aims - Identify what you intend to research/accomplish and the hypothesis to be tested.
    • Background and Significance - Describe why the research is important, what has already been done in the area of interest, and how this research will add to the current body of knowledge.
    • Preliminary Studies- Describe any studies that you have already performed pertaining to the research subject.
    • Methods - Identify how you are going to carry out the research. Describe the experimental design, methodology, and manner in which the data will be analyzed.
    • Organizational Structure - Describe the organizational structure where you work, including support and resources available to you.

  4. Letter of Commitment from applicant.

  • $5,000 - $15,000 research stipend.
  • To an ACMS fellow or associate to mentor fellows, residents or medical students to conduct an IRB-approved research project.
  • Intended to develop research skills in future leaders of micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology.
  • Will favor focused projects with the potential to collect original data.
