The American Society for Mohs Histotechnology (ASMH) was founded in 1995 as an ancillary group to the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). One of the requirements for membership in the ASMH is employment by an active ACMS member or membership in the ACMS.
Member benefits include: discounted registration fee for the Annual Meeting, quarterly newsletter with articles related to the field of histotechnology, histotechnician salary survey results, career listings, and the opportunity for peer interaction and information exchange throughout the year. See below for additional information on membership.
Purpose
The Mohs Histotech Quality Assurance (MHQA) Training initiative was created by the Mohs College to elevate the national standard of Mohs Histotechnology, and strive towards a common level of excellence of Mohs technicians. The MHQA Training initiative is designed to provide improved slide-preparation technique to Mohs Technicians whose employers recommend and approve such training. It should be noted that this training is not an official Histotech Certification program, nor is it intended to substitute training for new techs with no experience. The MHQA Training initiative is designed to further enhance the performance and quality of work to established Mohs technicians.
Description of Program
The MHQA training is specifically designed to meet the needs of the trainee. The trainer will give an overall review of Mohs cryotomy and the principles and technique of staining. The trainer will then address the concerns or deficiencies of the trainee as requested by the Mohs surgeon and/or Mohs tech trainee.
Enrollment Information
Only techs who currently work for a member of the Mohs college and are already performing Mohs procedures are eligible to participate in the MHQA training program. Mohs College members may make arrangements to have personalized training for their Mohs technician(s). It is the responsibility of the student seeking training to contact an MHQA trainer and make arrangements for the training. Please contact the Mohs College office to obtain contact information for trainers. An MHQA Training Initiative Enrollment Form must then be completed and sent to the Mohs College along with payment. The standard tuition for training will be $500 for ASMH members and $750 for non-members. The amount of time spent for training will be left to the discretion of the participants; however, the Mohs College recommends an average duration of two days for each training session. Upon completion of training, the student will receive a certificate of participation from the Mohs College, and the MHQA Trainer and student will be required to fill out an assessment form to provide feedback to the College regarding the training experience. The students practice is responsible for all costs incurred (travel, food, lodging, etc.) during training. These costs are in addition to the standard tuition for training.
